Spain is famous for its unique and crazy street festivals, and this fiesta is one-of-a-kind, embrace your inner pyromaniac and join Stoke Travel playing with fire!!! Las Fallas Festival takes place in Valencia as a celebration of the coming of spring. The city's population increases by 2 million over this jubilant bon voyage to winter, where locals bid farewell to the cold days and even colder nights by building giant ninots (puppets or dolls) out of cardboard, wood, paper machè and plaster, and then burning them to the ground on La Crema. There are spectacular fireworks set off from every angle, and, of course, it wouldn’t be a Spanish festival without drinking and dancing at outrageous street partys!
On the day of the burning, March 19, young men wander around the city with axes making little spot holes in the ninots and stuffing them full of fireworks. Just before midnight the crowds in Valencia start to chant, the streetlights are turned off and finally at midnight the ninots are set on fire. What follows is an explosion of fireworks, roaring fires and full-on excitement.
And of course there's Stoke's famous campsite… where we'll be serving up our specialty (PARTY), take advantage of our unlimited beer and sangria (€10 per day) to say salud to Spring!
